These free boating apps are great for emergencies:

American Red Cross Hurricane AppThe Red Cross has developed an app that not only will help you track hurricanes in your area, but it is fun to use. The app includes informative educational tests that you give you “badges” for when you master each category.  With one click you can find out a history of hurricanes in your area.  Check lists help you ready for the storm, a list of shelters are an easy find and quick one-step ways to let your family know you are safe make up this multi-functional app. This is an app worth downloading. Free Available through RedCross.org, iTunes and GooglePlay

Flashlight– Although the American Red Cross App has a flashlight function, this app is more quickly available. iHandy also included a compass in its design, it can flash at multiple rates and has an SOS function.  It may come in “handy” in an emergency.  Get it if you don’t already have it – you’ll need it! Free on iTunes

Boat US – This free app can get you a tow and notifies the towing service where you are.  See more in our Helpful Boating Apps section. Available at the App Store and GooglePlay

Sea Tow – Whether or not you have Sea Tow boat service in your area, their app has lots of extras: weather with radar, tides, GPS, speedometer and compass. It has a lot to offer. Love this app! Free at the App Store and GooglePlay

Marine Weather– Most of us have a weather app on our smartphones, but an app particular to boating may help prevent getting caught in a bad situation unique to the water. This app by Bluefin is free, gives you data on waves, wind and water temperature.  Free at the App Store and GooglePlay
